Drawing
By Mr. / Rashed
I’m so much concerned with using drawing in tackling the
vocabulary problems . Being bestowed with the gift of drawing since my
childhood . I have been able to help my students during my teaching
years in Egypt and the seconded period abroad.
Besides giving me a hand in
teaching my students , drawing has given me the chance to earn a living
abroad . I have drawn pictures of eagles on circled coloured glass in
one of the royal palaces. I have also drown a nice picture of about 3m
× 4m glass curve drawing , in the entrance of another Royal
palace. Spot lights have been put behind my drawing to add to its beauty
.
Problems
solved through drawings
(1) A lot of my students were so much
perplexed during using will or be+ going to . I drew this picture on the
B.B. to clarify the difference .

She is going
to have a baby |
She will
have a baby |
The
students laughed much and could unders
tand the difference .
(2) Once again a lot of my students failed
to understood the difference between the verbs steal / rob . To overcome
this problem I drew the following on the B.B.
|
 |
 |
|
He stole the
bank |
He robbed
the bank |
(3) I bear witness that drawing on the B.B.
is a pedagogic field problem since a lot of teachers don’t know how to
draw actions they couldn’t apply . During my teaching days I have faced
the problem of getting my students to know the differences between
put on / dress/ wear . I draw
these pictures .
(4) I have also been able to tackle the
problem of between and among .

She is

among them

between them |
Having
drawn these pictures , I asked my students to imitate my
drawing in their self – checking notebooks . Many of us have experienced
astounding success by imitating a very successful example for an
assignment or task . There c an be lots of natural success when we
imitate successful examples . This is why I’m not surprised to see the
populating of copy work in our classes . I do believe that imitation is
not a way to learn critical thinking . Imitation and copy work is not a
way to foster an innovative spirit in our students .
It is urgent in today’s world
that our Egyptian students become critical thinkers with strong values .
